Inspiration to an artist comes in many forms, and today it has lead me to the creation of something new...
Here is a monochromatic card that I made to congratulate a beautiful bride... :)
The entire process that led to the making of this is one fun journey, so sit back, relax and welcome to my crazy world.
When I gathered my supplies and sat down to make the card, I didn't know what I was going to make or how it would turn out...
I spotted the black and white challenge at Kraftzone blog and thought why not use just these two colors to make a card... it would be a refreshing break from the usual colorful variety that I make. I saw a few videos to observe layering and card making with black and white and the one that inspired me for this design is this one : Card Video
I saw a beautiful mannequin on the front of the card in the video, and when I saw it, the thought of using my So Suzy stamp "Wedding Dress" immediately came to mind.
I took my So Suzy stamp and stamped it in the center of the black cardstock as I wanted it to be the focal image of the card.
After that, I used a Tim Holtz stamp and stencil (script and gothic stencil) and created the background.
The word 'congratulations' is from a stamp set that I got free with an issue of Do Crafts magazine.
I underlined the sentiment using a white Sakura pen.
I matted it onto a white cardstock on which I had stamped in black ink the Tim Holtz script stamp to a few sides for texture.
Yet, something was missing... ofcourse, it was a congratulations card, it needed some bling!
I added white pearls to the dress and gave the mannequin a pretty pearl necklace with a rhinestone center.
I was still not happy... so I set it aside for sometime and was surfing the net when I spotted this "Butterfly Bride" stamp by So Suzy.
How strange... I used one stamp and got inspired by another one to add more detail to it... both by the same brand, but after I used some butterflies to add to the dress from my Martha Punch, I loved the result! (Pic #3 is Butterfly Bride by So Suzy Stamps)
The card seemed complete... well almost... I wanted to add something to the two corners of the black cardstock but didn't know what to add.... was confused and tried atleast 10 different types of embellishments when I saw a die-cut just lying in my box which I use to store them. (Thank God for transparent storage boxes!) (Picture #4)
I took it out and looked at the design, it was very pretty but too big for my project.... so I cut it in the size required for my project and stuck the trimmed pieces to the two sides.
Coated the die-cuts and butterflies in white shimmer and thus, my card was complete! ^__^
I had a lot of fun making this, afterall, if you don't experiment, you will never come up with something new! Never thought that just two colors, black and white would lead to this!
I'd love to hear what you think. Have a beautiful, sparkly day!
